Are You Kidding Me?
When the Little Things in Life Gets
the Best of You
What do you do when the little things in
life tick you off? There’s this burr in your saddle that irritates you to no
end. I have a burr in my saddle today. The burr is my vacuum cleaner. I have
replaced the roller and belt. I have replaced the clutch belt twice. I guess it’s the clutch assembly. I don’t want
to even look at the stupid thing anymore. Emotionally, my day is done. I am not
happy.
Have you ever allowed something stupid
to control your life? I have and I am. I know: How can you let something as insignificant as a vacuum cleaner get the
best of you? Well, it has. I am not proud of it. But it has gotten the best
of me. What do you do when the little things in life become the driving force?
That’s a good question and God has the
answer.
In all reality, it has everything to do
with your walk with Jesus. Obviously, I
am allowing circumstances dictate my walk with Him at times. This is one of
those times. God wants me to trust Him in all things. Even a stupid vacuum
cleaner. How is your walk with Him? Do you trust Him in every area of your
life?
God desires our faithfulness. Jesus even
told us that we are to be faithful in the little things in life. He knew that
if we are unwilling to be faithful in the little things in life, we will not be faithful in the large ones. Luke
16:10: “If you are faithful in little
things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little
things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
I need to stop allowing the little distractions in life get the best of me.
The vacuum cleaner is just a distraction. God is not going to ask me about my
vacuum cleaner when I get to Heaven. He is not going to ask me how well I took
care of it. He is not even going to ask if I was faithful to my vacuum cleaner.
By the way, I’m not. I have another vacuum cleaner in the laundry room (I know.
Bad boy.). God is more interested in having an intimate relationship with me.
He wants me to be focused on Him, not my circumstances.
If God is the most important part of my
life, nothing will distract me from Him. I need to stop allowing the things of
this world keep me from serving and trusting Him. He has already promised that
He will always be with me. He has promised that I don’t have to be discouraged
in my life. He is right there, holding me up with His righteous right hand. Isaiah
41:10: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with
you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and
help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
I can trust God with the little things
in life. The question is this: Can He trust me with the little things in life?
God is faithful. I need to be faithful. God even promised He will guard me against the evil one. Even if the evil one
is a vacuum cleaner.

Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is
faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you
from the evil one.”
